The Vicariate of Mondavio has probably formed gradually over the centuries, from Roman times, and then completed in the Middle Ages and Renaissance by the local presence of noble and wealthy families. In 1447 the Vicariate of Mondavio was invaded by Federico da Montefeltro, who defeated the Malatesta, who attempted a back in 1462, but was finally defeated in 1474.
